On November 14, the "Aerospace Science and Industry Cup" 2022 China Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Exchange Camp and the 9th "Creating Youth" China Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition were launched in Dalian, Liaoning. The DUT-RU ISE project “Precise Medicine: Precise Positioning and Navigation System for Personalized Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction” passed early selection, advanced to the national competition, and won the national silver award of the innovation group (for social enterprises), setting a new record of our school in the competition.
With Liu Hui, Li Pengxi and Ge Qi from the International School of Information Science & Engineering, and Wu Xiaomeng from the School of Economics and Management, the team of Precise Medicine has been actively preparing and planning since the beginning of this year and received careful guidance from Prof. Liu Bin of DUT-RU ISE and Prof. Yang Liang of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University. The team performed well in project presentation, on-site Q&A and expert review. Focusing on people's life and health and based on the computer-aided treatment of knee cruciate ligament reconstruction, the team proposed two technical solutions for personalized cruciate ligament reconstruction: preoperative planning and intraoperative navigation. Usually, doctors locate the insertion sites and drill the bone tunnel through the arthroscope with a very small scope of view based on their experience, which is largely random. To solve this problem, the team used technologies such as 3D modeling, personalized surgical planning, and preoperative planning of bone tunnel to effectively handle problems hard to see, locate and operate, improving the accuracy of ligament insertion site location and the success rate of surgery as well as the postoperative recovery of patients.
